i've been df'd for a number of years, and up until recently have been able to maintain a fairly close relationship with my parents.
dad passed away a few years back and since then i have tried to keep my mom busy so she wouldn't be alone - phone calls, shopping, dinner, etc - and i took care of things around her house for her.
well now mom has decided that she needs to follow the wt rules and cut the "socializing" with me - of course, it's "acceptable" for me to still go take care of her when she needs it .

i use my book bag to store my computer soft ware in its perfect for that.
and as for all the old issues of magazines i used them to start my wood stove on those cold mornings.
one time i asked for a lot of older issues from the friends so i could use them to line the bottom of my camp tent, they were more than happy to give them to me.
Hey, hey, these are 'collectors' items!

perfection?
i personally sense some persons expect and demand toooo much from others on forums of this nature.
You present some interesting points Panda. 'People who don't take themselves seriously.' When its not a life or death situation, why make issues or worry over them? Such a waste of time that be could better used in personal improvement or upbuilding activities.
'...strong on vital issues' good, not wishy washy or go wherever direction the wind is blowing.
'...chewing with your mouth close...' I'm with you on that. Ugly!
'...reasonableness' I've liken this quality to a 'Yield' sign on the highway.
Malcolm Forbes, ah, what would you do with his wealth? Hmmmmmmmm.

thread topics like "how to mess up the society"...."what dirty tricks would you pull on the watchtower" and "the society is about to go down the tubes!
" don't impress me.
honesty and forthrightness.
Logan, I expect people to vent, judge and be very expressive with their distasteful experience with the JW's. The problem I have is when this same expressiveness carrys over into years, years and into years. It just ain't healthy and it gets to be a broken record.

Lovinlife, how interesting you mention the word 'judgemental' three times. So true, so true. Yes, the JW's have a judgemental attitude. This attitude is a draw back and stymies one's personal mental and emotional growth, resulting in ill-health. This attitude of always apologizing (even over nothing) is a good example of control.

Another question along this line is, 'What do we expect from our marriage mates?' But then again, it should all tie in, shouldn't it?

i was lurking at beliefnet "learn about jehovah's witnesses"... here's a response to a question i'm sure you'll all enjoy!.
"3. what social systems do the jw have?
like support systems.".
OK, when will I expect the next joke?

april wine is playing this friday, and i really wanted to go.
my truck broke down, plus i'm working at my part-time job this friday night.. today, my fiance visited me during lunchhour and brought a surprise for me: 2 tickets to april wine.
she put herself in a bit of a financial goof to get these tickets.
As YOU suggest, give her back the tickets and let her take a friend or let her give the tickets to someone else. Your hands will be free of blood, yours!

Sns, don't tell me you fall for those tall sad story's? Amazing how encouraging it is when we are treated fairly and shown respect.

i came across this on a different board.
i haven't taken the time yet to read it, but its being "heralded" by a christian as a debate in which a christian minister won via logic over a minister-turned-athiest on the topic "does god exist".
i'm curious how sound the arguments are, and with some of the sharp minds around here, if an argument is faulty, i'm counting on it being discussed.. http://www.theologyonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=cbb686d85bd2e5fa727074241ddc0181&threadid=7709.
He exists to some and not to others.
